Tilly the assistance dog
From today, Tilly the assistance dog will be a regular visitor to our school during drop-off and pick-up time. Tilly has been trained to Public Access Standards by Canine Assistance Australia to work with one of our students. Tilly is still a young dog and is getting used to working in noisy places and busy places.
Tilly will be escorting and collecting a student in Room 6 to and from school. While Tilly is working we all need to remember to follow protocols that apply to assistance dogs. Please feel free to discuss some of the protocols with your child:
- Remember the dog is working
- Give the dog space
- Ask the student’s mum if you can pat the dog (be prepared for the answer to be no – Tilly may need to be focused)
Ms Hill, our art teacher, will be commencing the mural (on the walls of the toilet block), on Wednesday 24th March at 9:20am, and would love some helpers if people are keen.
Artist Eleisha Pirouet has created 6 sketches based on student drawings and ideas, and this week our school community is invited to vote on which design they’d like to see come to life. Hard copies will be on the pinup board outside art room.
- To complete the Third Party Online Consent form for your child(ren) – sent via Connect on 16th Feb, and again on 18th
- To return green update forms (even if there are no changes to make), and pay school Contributions.
- To get a late pass from the office if your children are arriving after the school bell in the morning. Also, if collecting children early, you must sign them out at the office before getting them from the classroom.

- Parents are asked to use the front door of the Admin building.
School Board update
The Millen School Board’s first meeting for 2021 was held on 11 March.
At this meeting we approved the 2021 School Budget. In the Budget funds have been earmarked for the quadrangle upgrade. It is very disappointing that the upgrade has not been able to go ahead as intended due to cost and site access issues. The Board will consider how we can advocate for funding for this important project – I think most families will have a child who has scraped their knees on the rough ground!
At the meeting we also endorsed the school’s new Business Plan for 2021-2024. Progress toward achieving the commitments in the Business Plan will be reported to the Board as part of our role is to monitor the performance of the school. We noted the Statement of Expectation which is the agreement between the Director General and the Principal. And finally, we discussed the upcoming School Review, and look forward to being a part of the review process in late March.

UNIFORM THANKYOU AND WELCOME
We’d like to say a huge thank you to the dedicated Ellena who has run our uniform shop for the past few years, particularly last year with the stress of COVID-related delays. We appreciate all the time and energy you have poured into this role Ellena.
The P&C would like to welcome our new Uniform Coordinators, Gillian Croft and Catherine Finch. They are kicking things off by opening the uniform shop next Thursday 25th March in its new location (the old front desk area).
