Katitjiny – 20.07.2020

Week beginning Monday, 20 July 2020

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all enjoyed some quality family time over the school holidays.

We are really excited about the great term we have ahead of us. There are some exciting events planned. Please make sure you stay up-to-date through the Katijiny and the school calendar (on our website).

Remember students return on TUESDAY 21 JULY.

Assemblies

We have made a few changes to our format. Some of these changes will remain in future years while others are just for the remainder of this year. As our student population has increased significantly, our assemblies have grown longer. The recent disruptions were an opportunity to reflect and make improvements. I would like to thank all of the parents who completed our assembly survey last term.

We do not have enough assemblies to fit in all of the classes who had not yet hosted and presented a class item. So, we made the decision to suspend our class items until next year. However, as this is the last opportunity for our Year 6 students, Room 1 will host an assembly and show a video they made last term. The Year 6 students in Room 2 had already hosted an assembly earlier in the year.

We will continue to present merit certificates at the assemblies, however, we will only read the names of the students. We will be presenting End of Year Awards (Work Ethic, Excellence and Kwinanis Citizenship) but will no longer present the End of Term Awards.

Our children, staff and community value the assemblies and we understand their value. We hope to continue holding positive, joyous assemblies that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Millen Primary’s Cross Country

Our school cross country event will be held on Wednesday, 5th  August for children in Years 1 – 6. We encourage parents to attend. The school placings determine the selection of the interschool cross country team. Due to our PE teacher, Mr Anderson, being on leave for most of Term 2 the children have not yet trained. If your child would like to compete for a place on the interschool team (Years 3 – 6) we encourage them to train during the school holidays.

Mr Anderson will send a letter home with all of the details soon.

Millen P&C and Tommy Sugo Fund Raising Pasta Drive

The Millen Primary School P&C, in conjunction with Tommy Sugo, are running a pasta drive to raise funds.  Order Tommy Sugo Products, using the attached link (FUND RAISER ORDER FORM) between 26 June 2020 and 31 July 2020 and a portion of the commission will be donated to the P&C.

Pasta products can be home delivered or picked up from the school canteen on Friday afternoons at 2.30pm (except in the school holidays).
Please forward the link to family and friends, so they can also place orders to help us to raise money for the school.
