Student Wellbeing

Our whole-school approach to student wellbeing includes the implementation of the Friendly Schools Plus initiative and Zones of Regulation.

The Friendly Schools Plus initiative aligns with the Australian National Safe Schools Framework. It is a multi-component, evidence-based initiative involving the whole school community to build social skills, create supportive environments and reduce bullying. Friendly Schools Plus teaches our students the following social and emotional capabilities:

  • Self-awareness
  • Self-management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Social decision-making

The Zones of Regulation curriculum teaches students how to recognise and manage their emotions and level of alertness by categorising their feelings into four colour-coded zones:

Blue – feeling sad, tired or bored

Green – feeling calm, focused and ready to learn

Yellow – feeling excited, anxious or stressed

Red – feeling angry, frustrated or out of control

When students can identify the zones and therefore their emotions, they become better at regulating their emotions.
